USACM CFD/FSI Virtual Seminar

Advanced and Practical Fluid-Structure Interaction

Professor Yuri Bazilevs
E. Paul Sorensen Professor
Brown University

Abstract

In this talk I will present the recent breakthroughs in advanced fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling that
enable the application of what is largely considered by some "academic" methods to accurate and effective
simulation of mechanical and structural systems. The presentation will focus on describing the modeling
approaches involved and showing several convincing examples/studies from wind energy to air-blast FSI.

Biography

Yuri Bazilevs is the E. Paul Sorensen Professor of the Mechanics of Solids and Structures in the School of Engineering at Brown University. His research interests lie in the general area of computational mechanics where Yuri develops advanced computational methods for the simulation of
solids, structures, fluids, and fluidstructure  interaction (FSI). Yuri received the 2018 Walter E. Huber Research Prize from the ASCE, the 2020 Gustus L. Larson Award from the ASME, and the inaugural 2021 Centennial Mid-Career Award from the Materials Division of the ASME.
Yuri currently serves as the President of the US Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM).

Sponsored by USACM Technical Thrust Area on Computational Fluid Dynamics/Fluid Structure Interaction.
