Description of Position: The Scientific Computation Research Center (www.scorec.rpi.edu) at Rensselaer is seeking highly motivated individual to develop unstructured mesh and/or machine learning technologies, and associated software, to be applied to the modeling of fusion reactors. The successful candidates must be able to interact with faculty and students at Rensselaer as well as computational physicists and computer scientist at partner universities and DOE laboratories.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  •  PhD in Computational Physics, Computer/Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering or science discipline.
  • Have expertise in a subset of the areas listed and interest in interacting closely with others that provide expertise in the other areas:
    • Development and optimization of Particle in Cell methods,
    • Applying machine learning technologies,
    • Simulation methods to model various fusion reactor physics, and/or
    • Unstructured mesh technologies.
  • Experience in parallel programming and high performance computing with emphasis onnext generation HPC systems.
  • Good knowledge of FORTRAN, C and/or C++ programming languages and GNU/Linux operating system is required.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering tools will be considered favorably.
