Description of Position: Postdoctoral positions are available in the department of Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in Prof. Semnani’s research group. The positions involve developing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and geomechanical modeling techniques for landslide hazard assessment. The project is an opportunity to collaborate with experts in high-performance computing, geomechanics and climate modeling. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance. Start date is flexible. 

Minimum Qualifications: We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals with the following qualifications:

  • Recent PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machine learning and applications using python programming
  • Demonstrated background in computer programming using python and/or C++.
  • Experience with at least one common numerical modeling technique, such as Finite Element Method, Material Point Method, Discrete Element Method, etc.

Experience with analyzing geospatial data (e.g., GIS) and/or landslide modeling is a plus, but not required.
