Description of Position: The Scientific Computation Research Center (www.scorec.rpi.edu) at Rensselaer is seeking a highly motivated individual to develop unstructured mesh technologies, and associated software, to be applied to a wide range of challenging scientific problems including the mechanics of ice sheets, fusion energy systems and aircrafts. The successful candidates must be able to interact with faculty and students at Rensselaer as well as computational physicists and computer scientist at partner DOE and DOD laboratories and universities.

Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications for consideration include:

  • PhD in Computational Physics, Computer/Computational Science, Scientific Computing, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering or science discipline.
  • Expertise in a subset of the following:
    • Development of unstructured mesh-based PIC calculation methods.
    • Development of adaptive unstructured mesh procedures.
    • Coupling large scale codes to combine different mesh-based calculations including particles.
    • Development of parallel computing methods, and associated software, that will execute on large scale parallel computing systems that include accelerators (e.g. GPUs).
  • Good experience in parallel programming and high-performance computing with emphasis on next generation HPC systems including platform portable libraries such as Kokkos.
  • Good knowledge of C, C++, and/or FORTRAN programming languages and GNU/Linux operating system is required.
